Appearance: Slugs and snails vary in color based
on the species. They are usually brown, green, or yellow in color, but
some species are black.
Size:
Most are small and range from 1 to 3-inches in length.
Behavior:
Slugs and snails are common inhabitants around most homes. Snails
enclose themselves with a protective shell, while slugs cover
themselves with a slime layer. Both snails and slugs can be serious
pests of landscape plantings. They can also be seen on decks, patios,
and even indoors.
Habitat:
Snails and slugs are often found in vegetation or areas in contact with
the soil. They are capable of damaging many plants as they feed and are
considered real pests.
Interesting Fact:
A slug or snail moves by propelling itself by sending wave after wave
of small contractions forward from the back of its foot toward the
front.
